Hey, I’m Melinda, a wife, a mom, a grandma and are so excited that you are here at” Lifestyle of Daily Joy”, and I hear you, see you, feel you, and I have been there. For many years, I was just hanging on by a thread. I understand, I too have felt worn out and wondered how in the world I was going to do what life expected of me to do. Chaotic mess might as well have been my middle name. I remember a time when I knew my thoughts were not serving me well, I just did not know how to go about changing them. I have always struggled with time for self-care. I am no stranger to needing restful sleep. I understand the paralyzing grip of procrastination. Disorganization might as well have been my last name. Setting boundaries was tough for me. Me and self-esteem were not friends. Confidence was non-existent in my life. I can certainly understand your reservations as fear stopped me from living life. For me, anxiety called shotgun of the driver seat at times. I am familiar with how it feels to reach the end of your rope saying,” Something has got to change”. I have been there wondering if there really is a loving God that exists. I learned through life how to grow closer to God.
Since then, I have become appreciative of and love my life. As I learned it is a process, it is messy, imperfect, and that it is okay to make mistakes, to be the person I was created to be, imperfect, quirky, unpolished, messy, fun, and authentic self. You see, my coming out on the other side in victory from my struggles, I concluded everything starts in our mind and our response to that is the very essence of the heart and belief in who we are.
So, if you are ready to create lifelong joy then this podcast is for you. Inside this podcast, you will learn how to cultivate and create joy; how to change your mindset; gain strategies that will help you get your life organized; learn to love yourself; what can do to get better sleep; to say yes to yourself; to break free of procrastination; to boost your mood and well-being; how to live life to its fullest rather than be in survival mode; ways you can quiet your fear and anxiety. Alright, As I was thinking about joy this past week reflecting on how I was able to create it in my life those thoughts didn’t just stay there they also brought me to what I have learned in my personal journey about the things that not only can steal but also rob my joy, additionally the things that held power to also hinder it without my realizing what was happening. I discovered things that hinder, steal or rob one’s joy can be sneaky things, things that one may not even think would be able to do that.

Alright as I mentioned in my last episode #8 “Meaning of Joy in Life” today we will be starting our self-care series. For those who have yet listened in on my first episode “The Foundation for an Abundance of Lifelong Joy”, it was in there that I mentioned it is my belief one of the foundations of an authentic joyful life has to do with how we view ourselves, the messages we feed our minds and spirits as well as what we believe to be true about us. For it is my personal opinion… this is not only part of the foundation of joy but also the foundation of self-care, the beginnings of true self-care…. And in this episode, I will be explaining why I feel it is. I tend to believe in the importance of understanding these concepts and ideas because Lifestyle of Daily Joy’s premise is how to create daily joy and a lifestyle of it and what our episode today consists of going hand in hand with that.
So while we are going through this series of self-care and continuing the mini-series of joy we will be slowly uncovering what it is, what it isn’t, the characteristics of it, and whether it differs from happiness or not, in which we did talk about these four ideas in Episode #8 “Meaning of Joy in Life” and so now, we will be expanding these ideas, giving them life….by talking about ourselves and what I believe to also be the foundation for well-being, or whole wellness if you will.

Welcome beautiful souls… I am Melinda Heath and are thankful you are here at Lifestyle of Daily Joy taking your precious time to listen in on episode #8 “Meaning of Joy in Life”
In today’s episode “Meaning of Joy in Life” we will focus on what joy is and isn’t and the question whether it differs from happiness or not.
So, here we go… let us start off with some definitions and characteristics of Joy from varying sources -
According to Merriam Webster, joy is great pleasure or delight from well-being, success or good fortune, also contentment, elation, and gladness.
According to Dictionary.com, joy is emotion of great delight or happiness caused by something exceptionally good or satisfying. Elation.
In addition, the definition of Joy in Psychology – It is deeper than happiness, a state of gladness, it is feeling satisfied and that joy has meaning to it rather than just a feeling. It comes from living authentically, it is finding purpose in life (even in the midst of suffering), it involves being content and being actively engaged in life. In psychology joy is said to boost energy, confidence and resilience, similar to endorphins or dopamine and even can be present while experiencing sorrow. It has to do with having life values, it is enduring as well as said to be tied to the inner self.
Further… the definition for the deeper meaning of Joy is –
The sense of well-being, feeling content and satisfied, is often spiritually and value connected. Joy goes beyond happiness as happiness depends on circumstance, the emotion of happiness comes and goes, but joy is something entirely different, it is on a different level than happiness for it is rooted within us, it isn’t an emotion per say, it is more a choice, a way of life, it is intentionally accepting the realities of life that life isn’t always going to be a bed of roses as it relates more to finding things you can be thankful for in life and have gratitude for, it has something to do with how one approaches life, it is an inside job, it is a life of inner peace (even in times of suffering and troubles) and it has to do with living authentically.
The biblical definition of joy is– Deep enduring spiritual contentment and delight in God. It does not depend on circumstances, it is an inside job, it is supernatural, it is of the spirit not just emotional, and it manifests gratitude for what you have, an attitude of the heart, it is faith and hope.
In Christianity joy means– being separate from worldly happiness, it is of the holy spirit, it is of the fruits of the spirit, as it pushes through trials with the attitude of resting in God’s presence and promises bringing a source of strength during times of trials.

In light of us heading into a new year and with all that is going on in the world around us, all across the globe currently,….there may be a chance you have been asking yourself is it even at all possible to create and have an abundance of authentic joy, could I even really think about such things considering the climate of all that has been and is taking place…..????
The answer is a resounding yes and, in this episode, I am going to share with you a personal story, a recent conversation between God and I regarding this because I asked him a similar question prior to my launching Lifestyle of Daily Joy. So, you will get to hear all about the messages I received and the wonderment of the signs I experienced that guided me to his answer. I will also in this episode share how my podcast came to be, a different story as I had been in much prayer about my podcast and God being instrumental in utilizing 5 different people I have had in my life (in one form or another), one of them being a non-Christ believer (in which none of them know each other) as all their messages to me had a common denominator, to stop delaying, get my podcast launched, off the ground and up and running now.

She is such an inspiration to me and my life as her faith in God allows and gives her the strength to live life to the fullest, the joyful abundance that we have been talking about, she is such an inspiration to me because she puts one foot in front of the other in any circumstance she may find herself in and has such a positive attitude while she is doing that as she allows God to take the lead and her heart is so big and full of grace and love toward others. What an amazing person my mom is and I am so glad that God gave her to me.
